| When I think back, I always |
Crammed way too much into my backpack, |
| And forgot what’s more important than anything else. |
| Getting entangled and distangled again, those shoestring-like interpersonal conflicts. |
That kind of thoughts— |
| Would eventually become as insignificant as the mud on my shoesole. |
| The rail crossing bell pierces through the dusk; |
| It sounds like it just wants to hurry me forward. |
| Together with the crows, let’s proceed. |
| No matter who, as they become an adult, they’ll end up forgetting before long: |
| Even the tranquility of the evening bell, and the fragrance of the four seasons. |
| Surely, as I become an adult, I’ll stop feeling before long: |
| Even the weight of the pocket money I tightly held, and the warmth of that person. |
| I’ll lose it, notice it, and carry on with life. |
| Before I noticed, the box in my heart is covered in dust; |
| The key to those memories has become too rusted to open it. |
| Social relationships that are supposed to be additions have turned into subtractions since when. |
| Things like “forever” aren’t real, so it’s all just self-interest at the end. |
| Whatever remains, is it a papier-mâché-like relief? |
| What’s known as becoming an adult, |
| Is to seal your real feelings inside your throat; |
| Is not being able to name the wind that breezes through; |
| Is no longer bothering to find out why the sky is blue; |
| Is only worrying where to find silence in the midst of a beautiful rain. |
| My heart is no longer moved by the sweet aroma of an evening shower of June. |
| I stopped wanting to know the name of the flower blooming in the back alley. |
| What remains is the peace of mind that everything is according to script. |
No cure available, clearly wearing away all emotions, as if a cold without a fever, that looks like an illness— |
| —Such nonsense. |
| The rail crossing bell rings throughout the streets; |
| It resonates into the very depths of my lungs. |
| Together with the crows, let’s return. |
| —No, let’s proceed onward. |
| No matter who, everyone eventually becomes an adult. |
| Now that I’ve become an adult, it’s obvious what’s already slipped by. |
| Blooming in the spring, wilting in the spring, there’s a kind of beauty in this parting. |
| And now, this empty feeling has taken root in my chest like a curse. |
| Burnt onto the inside of my closed eyelids, is a young and innocent nostalgia. |
| The “forever” we swore upon that day, became reminiscing the everyday that I cannot return to. |
| I lose it, notice it, and carry on with life. |
